Weekly GNU-like Mobile Linux Update (25/2026): Alpen Avocado and a flip phone by Commodore
Table of Contents
postmarketOS v26.06 "Alpen Avocado" is out, and Commodore is back with a flip phone running Sailfish OS — at a price. Linux 7.1 released; Ubuntu Touch OTA 2.0 Beta adds Nothing Phone (1) and notch support; KDE Plasma 6.7 ships, with Plasma Mobile improvements; postmarketOS duranium images gain a Waydroid sysext and Bazaar for Flatpak installs, and more!
A Personal Note
This Update is one day delayed, because I spent the Sunday evening in the hospital with my wife for a check-up. All is well, I am not a father yet, but this may well be the last Weekly Update where this is the case ;-)
I hope that I'll be able to continue the updates without severe hickups, but there has to be some streamlining: I am dropping the video collection script, as it gathers too much irrelevant videos; from videos about fishing because of the "Sailfish" in "Sailfish OS", to all that AI slop. Just to put a number: The raw file I started with for this update contained 139 links to videos.
So if you find or make some relevant video content, that has been published during the week or and has not been included in the Weekly Update, please put it (and other relevant content) in the pad :-) Also, linmob.net is open for relevant guest posts. Thanks in advance!

- matt: "This is a challenge to everyone who says that generative AI is unethical, that it's an indictment of the software industry, etc. What are we going to do about the fact that at least one group, blind people, is now effectively using LLM-based coding agents to vibe-code solutions to accessibility problems? Maybe that is an indictment of how the software industry neglects accessibility and the needs of blind people. And of the complexity of "real programming". What will we do about it?"

- radmorecameron: Does anyone know of a reliable way to get the formfactor of a device (i.e. check if the device is a handset) in an app? Ideally in a way that works with flatpak sandboxing 🙂There's some cross-platform apps that I feel could run a lot better on LinuxMobile if a check for this could be added somehow (these apps seem to want to differentiate between a phone vs. a desktop when the window size is small)#LinuxMobile #postmarketOS #flatpak

No social media, or browsers (blocked at OS level) and no AI, but supports messaging with WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and respects your privacy. It's not going to be cheap, but it's actually something I'd be interested in buying. https://commodore.net/callback/#commodore #callback #sailfishOS

It is now available in the testing repository, please give it a try on your #PinePhone :)You may have to do a power cycle after the upgrade before it can boot properly. We have no idea why as it only happened on first reboot, but it likely had something to do with already initialized values from the old TF-A.
