Weekly GNU-like Mobile Linux Update (26-28/2026): Rough Continuation
Table of Contents
Quick and dirty three-week catch-up: the Jolla Phone finally landed in backers' hands at the Day1 event in Helsinki, FuriOS 14.0.3 shipped face authentication and Vulkan with swipe typing on the way, Phosh 0.56.0 is out, postmarketOS gets Plasma 6.7 and bigger boot partitions, and more!
My son is already over two weeks old, as shared on the Fediverse. This is a hasty attempt to get back in the habit without loosing too much sleep.
Commentary in italics.

Worth Noting
- luana: Btw if anyone's interested in declaratively configuring their Linux phones with Nix to avoid having to redo everything manually after flashing, system-manager works fine on postmarketOS! Here's my Fairphone's configuration if you want something for reference: https://github.com/LuNeder/nixos-config/blob/strawberry/Luana-Fairphone6The ensureAlpinePackages module is available in my Flake: https://github.com/LuNeder/merpkgs#postmarketOS #Nix #Fairphone #LinuxMobile #Linux #NixOS
- nikodunk: Thanks to @ollieparanoid 's prompt we made a bit of progress moving @verdre @tbernard's mobile shell patches to /World for easier collaboration (already have 3 maintainers now) , and making the repos proper relational forks of their upstreams for easier syncing thanks to @alatiera. Rebasing from 48=>51.alpha/main not done yet (I'm a bit over my head on this one), but we have better tools to do so now. - newbyte: I want to extend a big thank you to Oormila Raveendran Andaythu (unfortunately no fedi account) for making an introductory tutorial on how to make your first #MobileLinux app as her master's thesis and presenting it at the first PCM this May. Developer documentation like this is something we're sorely missing and could use much more of. Find a published version of it here: https://oormila94.codeberg.page/ (probably something we should link to somewhere in the #postmarketOS documentation)

- UndeadLeech: Since squeekboard is no longer maintained, I decided to take some time to add focus-based visibility to wvkbd:https://lists.sr.ht/~mil/sxmo-devel/patches/70516Surprised to see it wasn't implemented before, considering how simple it is. If this is not desired upstream, maybe it's time to write my own…#linuxmobile #catacomb #sxmo
- Undead Leech: Catacomb 1.6.0 brings a small improvement for the Fairphone 5, working around the frequent wakeups from suspend by quickly resuspending after wakeup without inputs, and keeping the screen off on wakeup without power button press.https://git.sr.ht/~undeadleech/catacomb/refs/v1.6.0#catacomb #linuxmobile

- #sailfishOS: @eighthave @waag «they are working to implement their own version of Play Integrity»Source please.edit: For some reason there's always people shitting on #SailfishOS (SFOS) for not being pure enough. Even though they're open sourcing more of their software. It will never be good enough, so let's just keep using iOS and Android?I'd love if there were more alternatives, preferably non-proprietary, but at the moment SFOS really is the only viable alternative that is not an Android derivative.

- fredldotme: Since @thelinuxEXP did his wonderful and honest take on Ubuntu Touch, I wanted to mention that I switched my daily driver laptop experience with my JingPad and its keyboard + touchpad case.Needless to say, I can do everything I would do on a normal computer:- Build Ubuntu Touch apps in Clickable & Docker- Build Snaps and Debs in LXD- Edit in VSCodium- Commit and push with Git- Edit presentations in LibreOfficeI don't do video editing, I would guess that UX might be terrible right now
- fredldotme: Here's something I recently released: https://snapcraft.io/gdb-staticThese are static builds of gdb & gdbserver as a Snap. Just two files!Run them outside of confinement for now, I'll check for confined usecases later. If you can come up with one thenfeel free to comment.Main reason I did this was to have an always installed, not wiped with each update debugger on Ubuntu Touch. Ubuntu Core and Ubuntu Desktop users might also be interested though.

Apps
- Modal: ⚠️ PSA ⚠️We're releasing a new preview version of Reflection today (0.4), with new versions of p2panda (0.7) and iroh (1.0). Thanks to many fixes in these components, p2p connectivity is much more stable now!Unfortunately, due to internal breaking changes, old pads won't work anymore after updating. They are not deleted, but there's also no automatic migration currently. It's possible to get to the old data by downgrading the app to 0.3.Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause!

Something missing? Want to contribute?
If your project's cool story (or your awesome video or nifty blog post or ...) is missing and you don't want that to happen again, please just put it into this pad for the next one! Since I am collecting many things there, this get's you early access if you will ;-) If you just stumble on a thing, please put it in there too - all help is appreciated!
