- Community News - Sailfish OS Forum: Sailfish Community News, 23rd May 2024 - Jolla Day 2 recap. I've seen quite some pushback on the move to a subscription model (it's 5 €/month subscription for software updates, instead of paying 50€ upfront). Honestly, especially now that Jolla is no more in Russian hands and lacks the Rostelecom money, this very likely to be a financial necessity. I think it also aligns interest of users (that want continued development) and the company (that needs a continuous revenue stream) - after all, there's no App Store money or advertising revenue on Jolla's side. Regarding the hardware: I already have too many Linux Phones, so I will not add a UNISOC T606 powered device to my portfolio - to me, this phone is more a nod to the community than anything else.1

Worth Noting
- @hamblingreen: Announcing the release of #fbp and #f_scripts 0.6! This marks the first #framebufferphone releases in almost 2 years, and I'm so proud of the amount of learning that went into these releases. I'm picking up where Miles Alan left off in order to create the ultimate framebuffer-based UI for #MobileLinux. Packaging should be making its way into #pmOS/#Alpinelinux soon (tm), and I've created a PR to get this UI option merged into #Danctnix Arch ARM.

That's good news. From https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/sailfish-community-news-23rd-may-2024-jolla-day-2-recap/18634 Q: Are you considering keeping one-time-fee (perpetual) Sailfish license available?A: Yes, we are and also based on the feedback it looks that we keep the option for a Sailfish OS (perpetual) license with fixed fee available for all supported device models. This will be offered next to the subscription model.

Something missing? Want to contribute?
If your project's cool story (or your awesome video or nifty blog post or ...) is missing and you don't want that to happen again, please just put it into the hedgedoc pad for the next one! Since I am collecting many things there, this get's you early access if you will ;-) If you just stumble on a thing, please put it in there too - all help is appreciated!
Yes, this should have been its own blog post, but... time is too scarce right now, sorry!
